Tell me honestly, would you undertake this procedure to finish your orthodontic treatment a few months faster?
There is ongoing research aimed at finding methods of speeding up orthodontic treatment and one such process involves making small incisions in the gum to enable a tool to be used to cut away a small amount of bone. The idea is that whilst the bone is healing, teeth can move faster and you will be able to complete your treatment sooner.
Previous studies were inconclusive and didn’t demonstrate a significant improvement in treatment times but in a recent study, it was found that this method, called, piezocision, did reduce treatment time in the group of patients undertaking the trial.
